Amanda Hawkins is a painter living and working in Portland, Maine. She maintains her painting practice at Space Studios and hosts art classes at Engine, a local nonprofit. Originally from Newburyport, MA and alumni of Montserrat College of Art, Amanda maintains an active network in the greater Boston area. When able to find downtime, she is outside exploring the many landscapes of her adopted state.
“My work explores the abstraction of natural elements. I work to liberate the landscape of its formal role, instead emphasizing the aesthetic qualities of the medium and picture plane. Fields of solid color and layers of transparency both offer and distort a tangible history of each painting. Viewers are enabled to pull their own readings from the haze.”
