Anderson, Noland

Born in Newport News, Virginia, Noland Anderson’s passion of figure drawing was formed at an early age. Working in pencil, pastels, acrylics and eventually oils. Noland attended the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale where he received an Associate Degree in Advertising. Upon graduating he went on to work as a freelance illustrator, designing Judaic throughout the mid 90’s and 2,000’s. During this period, Noland’s freelance work extended into television where he worked as one of three Court Artist for the ABC affiliate in South Florida and as an illustrator for Univision (an American media company serving the Latin Market worldwide).

The artist is constantly inspired by the simple and subtle makeup of the world around him. He believes that it is very much one thing to see the immediate beauty in a flower, a ladybug, or flowing stream, but another to observe and take in the little subtleties that makeup the beauty of the object.

“I attempt to make my work as organic as possible by loosely applying random brush strokes of acrylic or oil paints to a mixture of layered plaster and oxidized metal powders to achieve an unexpected and desired surface. It is at this point that I allow the canvas to determine which direction I will take or the subject I will paint”.
